Missions and Service Committee

As followers of Jesus Christ, we want to share what we have with those in need.  The Missions and Service Committee at Covenant Mennonite Church prayerfully considers ways our congregation can support God’s work in our local community, in Manitoba, and overseas.  We allocate funds, keep in touch with our Mission Partners, and inform our congregation of news from the people and organizations we support.

Our Mission Partners include:

Todd and Jeanette Hanson

Todd and Jeanette Hanson

The Hansons have taught English in China and worked with local churches and government agencies on social welfare projects. They are currently on a two-year leave-of-absence in Canada. While Todd pursues his studies, Jeannette will continue to provide support for rural Chinese pastors. More information about their work.

Phil and Julie Bender

Phil and Julie Bender

Phil and Julie Bender teach English to Chinese students. Last summer they moved from Chongqing, where they had taught at Chongqing Medical University for the last five years, to Dazhou, where they teach at Sichuan University of Arts and Sciences. They provide a Christian presence at the university and have an opportunity to build relationships with students. In more informal settings they are often able to to have conversations about their Christian faith. More information about their work.

Many Chinese congregations are unable to support their pastors. Some regions have hundreds of thousands of people, but just one or two pastors. More information about this project.

Covenant members packing goods for MCC to ship overseas

MCC

(Mennonite Central Committee)

MCC seeks to demonstrate God's love by working among people suffering from poverty, conflict, oppression and natural disaster. Local projects in North America as well as the Ten Thousand Villages and thrift shops raise funds that are used for programs around the world. At Covenant, we not only support MCC financially, but also work with local MCC projects such as packing items to be sent overseas. More information about MCC.
